Brock McGillis was awarded an inaugural Herbert Carnegie Trailblazer Award (HCTA) in January (see photo below) for his work and leadership in the sport of hockey and paving the way for others. He continues to exemplify the work of Herb Carnegie through his efforts and leadership, innovation of thought, undaunted courage, and steadfast vision to ultimately lead to a better future.

Today, he announced his “Culture Shift Tour,” a 100-day trek across Canada during which he will speak to 100 high school-aged minor hockey teams. The Carnegie Initiative is proud to serve as a Community Partner, that along with the many other supporting partners, has enabled Brock to offer the program at no cost.

McGillis, is a former OHL and semi-pro goaltender, a LGBTQ+ Activist, and the first professional hockey player to come out as gay. The “Culture Shift Tour” will use his life as a case study to humanize his experience of someone different than the norm and share examples of situations where people stood up to be shift makers.
