Carnegie Family to Host Free Black History Month Event

Screening of “Beyond Their Years” and Panel Discussion to be Held at Victoria University

Don’t miss out on a terrific free Black History Month Historical event on Friday, February 16, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

Bernice Carnegie and family welcome you to join them at the Isabel Bader Theatre, Victoria University, 93 Charles Street W, Toronto. 

The evening will feature a special screening of the award-winning “Beyond Their Years” documentary that profiles the lives of sports and social justice icons, Herb Carnegie (hockey) and Buck O’Neil (baseball). The showing of the film will be followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion about the themes in the film.

Bernice, along with her daughter Brooke Chambers and nephew Rane Carnegie, leadsocial justice initiatives through a series of presentations, workshops and film nights. They remain committed to challenging systemic injustices and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Brooke will serve as the moderator for the panel conversation. Joining Bernice and Rane on the panel will be Michael George, Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Principal; Mitzie Hunter, Community leader/former MPP; and Janelle Joseph, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education/Black Canadian Studies Association.
