Several members from The Carnegie Initiative (The CI) attended the Caribbean Summer Party hosted by Dentons law firm’s Toronto office on Thursday night (July 27). The DEI and networking event was held in celebration of Toronto Caribana which is North America’s largest Caribbean carnival.
The CI contingent included Co-Chair Bernice Carnegie, Executive Director Shelley Nicholls, and Advisor Brooke Chambers. They were joined by Shelley’s husband David along with Bernice’s son and Brooke’s brother, Vaughn Chambers. Thank you Andrea Nicholls, Dentons’ Canadian Chief Financial Officer, for the invite!
The Caribbean Summer Party was held at the Mascot Brewery patio in downtown Toronto. Mascot Brewery is part of the Black Owned Collob (BOC), that shines light on similar breweries and works to empower Black entrepreneurs “to build a better world and not wait for other people’s permission.” The BOC encourages other people of color to see themselves as a boss and recognize their worth and capability.
