Herbert H. Carnegie Community Award Presented

Herbert H. Carnegie Community Award Presented

Recipient recognized for leading equity, diversity and inclusion efforts

Herb Carnegie became Honorary Chief of Police for York Regional Police (YRP) Service in 2005. YRP established the Herbert H. Carnegie Community Award to pay tribute to his many years of contributions to the community. Annually, a staff member or officer receives the award at the YRP Police Appreciation Night attended by approximately one thousand community supporters.

This year’s recipient was Inspector Alice Tsang. Inspector Tsang, with more than 28 years of dedicated service with YRP, has been an organizational leader in equity, diversity, and inclusion for her entire career. Inspector Tsang’s vision has resulted in genuine, long-term relationships with many York Region communities, founded on building trust, enhancing policing through mutual understanding, and developing cultural competence. She is the officer in charge of the Hate Crime Prevention Unit and Diversity Equity and Inclusion Bureau.

Bernice Carnegie is delighted to attend the event each year to present the award to the dedicated recipients who give back to their communities with the same purpose and vision of her late father. Inspector Tsang was out of the country and unable to attend the Police Appreciation Night. So, Bernice was sure to be on hand at the YRP’s Asian Heritage event held on May 27 to present the award.
